Product Details:
Excellent and diverse premium substrate suitable for Isopods, springtails, and other microfauna. Providing no unnecessary ingredients, this substrate mix has a high amount of detritus nutrition that most premixes on the market don’t have. Proven to work for even the most sensitive of isopod species.
Ingredients:
- Organic Compost with detritus base blend for optimal nutrition.
- Decayed premium white rot wood that even the most sensitive species prefer to consume.
- Peat sphagnum moss for moisture retention.
- Shredded hardwood bark in low quantities to help with soil aeration and prevent water logging.
- Pulverized limestone powder for essential calcium needs, favored by many Cubaris and cave dwelling species.
- Oak and our special forest floor leaf litter mixture for a variety of nutritious detritus.
- Organic mycorrhizal fungi to establish beneficial microbes and bacteria, as well as contribute to the overall health of the substrate.
- Charcoal aids in increasing the growth of microbial life, while simultaneously assisting with soil aeration and providing ammonia capturing properties.
Sterilization:
All substrate is kept frozen in one of our freezers before purchase. This is to prevent pests and unwanted hitchhikers from contaminating the substrate. Freezing allows the substrate to retain all beneficial bacteria and microbial life without removing any nutrition, unlike heat treating methods.
Instructions for use:
- Open the bags seal and provide minimally 2-3 inches of substrate for most isopod species, more can be preferred for burrowing species. The same or slightly less (1-2 inches) can be provided for springtails.
- Bags will arrive with standard moisture retention present, for more arid species we recommend allowing it to dry on one side of the enclosure in order to create a firm gradient before introducing your isopods.
- Seal the bag when finished to prevent any pests from establishing in any remaining unused substrate.
